Hidden in the wall creepy crawlies

This weekends project was taking down the wall that surrounds our front garden, or making a start on it at least.

The idea is to replace the cracked wall, that was hit by a skip lorry driver and is covered with peeling paint, with a native hedge that will attract animals, insects and birds.

All the slabs and stones that topped the wall are going to be reused at the allotement for edging, but the rest has been boring trips to the tip.

The pillars are actually hollow so were full of spiders, woodlice, snails and insects.

Woodlice are not insects but crustaceans and are related to Crabs and Lobsters. Woodlice have fourteen legs and a outer shell called an exoskeleton.

There were lots of different spiders such as the Missing Sector orb spider and this huge spider which I think is a Cobweb spider but please let me know what it is. It had lots of Pill Woodlice in its web.

In the pillars and around the bottom under the plants were lots of Brown Garden Snails which were all heaped up on top of each other as well as a few of these small Round snails. We moved the Brown garden snails to another part of the garden.

Scuttling about trying to get back in the dark was this Common ground beetle.

I hope we didn’t disturb them all too much and they all find new homes.
