Bird Advent Calendar – Day 6

For Day 6 of my count down to Christmas is a common waterbird that you can see at nearly all ponds or lakes – the Moorhen.

Moorhens have a blackish plumage with a red and yellow beak and rough skin on their legs. They eat water plants, fruit, insects, snails and small fish.

These photos were taken at Cumnor village pond where there are lots of Moorhens and a Heron which appears from time to time.

I watched one of them for a while as it climbed quite high in a tree
