Bird Advent calendar – Day 13

Day 13 of my countdown to Christmas is the Collared dove.

Today it was extremely foggy and it was hard to see birds from a distance, so instead I put my hide up in the garden and waited for a bird that I haven’t done yet on my Christmas Countdown.

The first bird to appear was a Blue tit who was very wary of its surroundings, followed by two bickering Robins and the Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Finally a new bird turned up, the Collared dove.

Collared Doves can been seen all over the UK, and are commonly seen in gardens. We have eight that regularly visit our garden, coming down to eat from the tray of mixed seeds or sitting in pairs on the garden wall, fence or gate.

Out across the fields everything seemed quiet and still as the fog covered the ground.

I could just make out the Red Kite sat on a post eating something.
