Since we found the six badger cubs on 10th May, we have been watching them as much as possible. We are still no closer to working out whether this is just one very large litter or some of these badger cubs belonged to Cookie.
On Thursday 12th May I couldn’t go down to the sett so my mum took a cup of tea down to drink while checking up on the cubs. She took a funny clip of a cub stealing her empty mug and a few photos.
The cubs were already out when we arrived on Sunday evening. We sat down quietly and watched them foraging.
The cubs tend to come out for a short while feed, forage, gather bedding and play then disappear for a few hours before appearing again later.
The main carer of all the cubs seems to be Arrow with help from Pirate. The cubs appear to be split in to two groups, the two which don’t leave Arrow’s side and four cubs that are a bit more confident and stray quite far from the sett without an adult.
Since 10th May I haven’t seen more than five cubs together at any one time. I hope the 6th cub is doing ok and is one of the cub appearing on the trail camera.
The following clip and photos were taken by me.
I have put together a Youtube video of the badger cubs
