Day 24 of 30 Days Wild – pond dipping

Just under a year ago we built a pond in our garden. It has many visitors that use it to drink from, but today we thought we would find out what lived in the pond.

Sadly no tadpoles yet, but we did find plenty of pond snails, water boatman, water louse, pond skaters and lots of tiny little water beetles and wigglies that I didn’t manage to get any photos of.

Last week I spotted a leech attached to one of the stone, but I couldn’t find it today.

If you are interested in pond creatures I recommend this excellent website
