Peregrines and badgers
One bird I love seeing on my local patch is the Peregrine falcon. It’s not often I get a glimpse of any, but last week there was one being bothered by a Buzzard. Pigeons make up the main part of … Continue reading

Surprise visitor to my local patch
There was a colourful visitor to the village where I live today. Easier to hear than to spot, this Alexandrine parakeet spent the afternoon flying between two hedgerows on the outskirts of the village, sometimes just sitting calling or at … Continue reading

30 Days Wild – Day 5 – badger identification
Over the past few weeks of dry weather, we have had quite a few visitors to the garden pond. First, a female badger turned up and regularly came 5 or 6 times a night to drink. She is lactating so … Continue reading

30 Days Wild – Day 4 – Little things
Sometimes it’s good to spend time noticing the little things. The intricate lives of insects and beetles. During a short walk from my house I took photos of a nettle weevil, aphids, ants and raindrops.

Garden Wildlife – Part 15 Red kites
We have a number of Red kites on my local patch but when the fields are being ploughed like they have been over the past few days lots of red kites come in from miles around. Today, like yesterday we’ve … Continue reading

Garden Wildlife – Part 13 Kestrels
From my garden I can often see kestrels hovering. Not over the garden but in the next-door field. The field has a very wild field margin and a wildflower meadow at the bottom. Great hunting grounds for birds of prey. … Continue reading
